A PERSONAL WAY TO LEARN
Good lessons connect practical car control with observation and sound judgement. Your experience, confidence and questions shape the starting point.
Break unfamiliar skills into manageable tasks, with explanations and time to practise rather than pressure to rush.
Identify what is improving, what needs attention and a useful goal for your next session.
Tell us the days and times that fit your week. Lesson dates are agreed around current availability.
Choose the controls you want to learn, with advice on the practical differences before you commit.
Develop skills on suitable roads around Romford and Havering, matched to your ability and the conditions.
Work towards safer decisions without prompts, with test preparation and mock-test feedback when appropriate.
TWO WAYS TO GET STARTED
All standard driving sessions last two hours. Compare the controls, then choose the lesson type that supports your goals.
£35 / hour
£70 per 2-hour session
Practise coordinating the clutch and gears while building observation, positioning and judgement. A good option if learning manual controls is part of your driving plans.
£40 / hour
£80 per 2-hour session
Learn without a clutch pedal or manual gear changes. Some learners prefer fewer controls to manage while developing the same essential road awareness and decision-making skills.

AGREED PICKUP, USEFUL LOCAL PRACTICE
Tell us where you would like to start and finish. We agree a suitable, legal meeting point before your lesson; the practice route depends on your experience and the conditions, rather than your pickup location alone.
The shopping and market area can mean plenty of activity to read. As your skills develop, work on observation and planning around changing traffic. Agree a safe meeting point rather than assuming pickup on a busy frontage.
If you are fitting a lesson around travel or work in Gidea Park, share your preferred meeting location and times. We can discuss a suitable pickup point and select practice that matches your current skills.
North of central Romford, Collier Row combines a local shopping centre with surrounding neighbourhoods. Lessons can develop judgement around parked vehicles and meeting traffic where suitable, with the route chosen on the day.
Let us know whether you would prefer pickup near home or another agreed point in Harold Hill. Build experience step by step before adding more demanding junctions or traffic situations.
Chase Cross is part of our Romford service coverage. Share your postcode so we can confirm availability and an agreed meeting point, then focus the session on the skills you need to develop.
Around Romford’s rural edge, road character can change. When suitable for your progress, practise reading the road ahead and choosing an appropriate speed; your instructor will agree the session’s focus.
Barka is a service-area driving school, with no public walk-in office. We also teach in our other confirmed areas across Havering and nearby communities. Send your postcode to check pickup availability.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
Your lessons bring vehicle control and awareness together. Revisit individual skills when needed, then combine them in more varied situations as you progress.
Move off, stop and steer accurately. Choose a suitable position and manage speed with awareness of the space around you.
Build approach routines, observation and judgement when selecting gaps and responding to other road users.
Notice developing problems, judge gaps around parked vehicles and decide when to proceed or wait.
Practise low-speed accuracy with effective all-round observation, rather than relying on car control alone.
Follow directions while planning ahead and making safe decisions without constant prompts.
Bring skills together, review feedback and address gaps before deciding with your instructor that you are ready.
PREPARE FOR THE DRIVE, NOT A SCRIPT
Preparing for a practical driving test means showing safe, consistent driving in different situations. Barka can help you review observations, manoeuvres, road positioning and independent decisions, with mock-test feedback where appropriate.
If your appointment is at Hornchurch or Goodmayes, discuss it with your instructor early. Agree a suitable preparation plan and confirm any test-day lesson or car-use arrangements separately.
One of the nearby car-test centres listed by DVSA. Check your booking confirmation for the current address, time and arrival instructions.
Also listed by DVSA for car driving tests. Confirm the centre details directly and discuss preparation with your instructor.
Practice develops adaptable skills. Official test routes, test availability and a pass are not promised.
THREE STEPS TO YOUR FIRST SESSION
Get the practical details settled before the lesson, so you can focus on learning.

02
Share your postcode and preferred times. Confirm availability, the two-hour session cost and what to bring before booking.
03
Start at the agreed location. Discuss the lesson goal, practise at a suitable level and review the next steps together.

An amazing instructor, he’s very thorough when explaining what needs to be done and will always ask you if you understand. No harm in saying that you don’t because he will explain it a little bit better to your understanding. He’s very patient and not too serious so you can have a good laugh as well. I’ve enjoyed my lessons so far and I’ve learned quite a lot in such a short time! Would definitely recommend to anyone searching for an instructor😩Posted on Google![]()
