PERSONAL TUITION, PRACTICAL SUPPORT
Whether you are learning for the first time or continuing after earlier lessons, explain what feels comfortable and what needs work.
Learn why a routine matters, ask questions and revisit tasks without being rushed.
Share your RM5 postcode and preferred location so we can check a suitable meeting point.
Use feedback to decide what to practise next, rather than repeating a fixed lesson plan.
Tell us the times that fit your week. We will confirm lesson availability before booking.
CHOOSE THE CONTROLS THAT SUIT YOU
The transmission changes how you operate the car. Both lesson types develop the observations, planning and decisions you need around Collier Row and beyond.
£35 / hour
£70 per standard 2-hour session
Practise coordinating the clutch and gears as part of your road skills. Build smooth control before combining it with more demanding situations.
£40 / hour
£80 per standard 2-hour session
Remove manual gear changes from the learning process. You still practise speed control, positioning, observation and judgement, with support matched to your starting point.
Compare lesson prices and package options. Ask about current availability for your preferred transmission and pickup location.
FROM RM5 STREETS TO WIDER JOURNEYS
Collier Row sits north of central Romford and south of Havering-atte-Bower. Its shopping centre and surrounding neighbourhoods offer different situations to understand as your skills develop.
Learning locally should help you respond to the road you find, not memorise a sequence of turns. Your instructor chooses suitable practice according to your ability, the lesson goal and conditions on the day.
Around the local shopping area, useful habits include noticing pedestrians, reading the space around parked vehicles and allowing time for other people’s decisions. Practice focuses on anticipating changes rather than reacting late.
Collier Row Road, Clockhouse Lane, Chase Cross Road and Collier Row Lane meet at the local roundabout. When appropriate, work on approach speed, observations and choosing a suitable position; follow the current signs and markings.
Residential-road practice can help you assess clearance, decide when to wait for meeting traffic and check properly before moving away. Progress to more varied roads once these decisions become more consistent.
You can request home pickup or another local meeting point. Send the full address, postcode and preferred time so we can check safe access and travel arrangements. A shopping frontage or bus stop is not automatically a suitable pickup point.
Barka has no customer-facing office. If your journey starts outside Collier Row, explore our Romford driving lessons or ask about nearby service coverage.
PRACTICE THAT BUILDS ON ITSELF
A lesson can focus on one difficult skill or help you combine several. The next step depends on your progress, not the number of hours already completed.
Plan your approach, observe effectively and make a safe decision about when to proceed.
Notice developing risks and choose a position that gives you useful space and visibility.
Read gaps around parked vehicles, manage your speed and understand when waiting is the better decision.
Combine low-speed accuracy with effective observation, keeping attention on people and vehicles around you.
Follow directions while maintaining safe routines, then review decisions with your instructor.
Bring skills together consistently, with feedback to identify what needs further practice.
New to driving? See our beginner lessons. If you are returning after a break, refresher training can focus on the situations you want to revisit.
PREPARE FOR INDEPENDENCE
A familiar area can help you feel settled, but a practical driving test requires safe decisions when the situation changes. Use lessons to practise observation, positioning, manoeuvres and independent driving until your routines become consistent.
Where appropriate, a mock test can highlight how you manage decisions without normal coaching prompts. Use the feedback to plan further practice rather than treating it as a prediction of your result.
Hornchurch (London) and Goodmayes (London) are listed by DVSA as car driving test centres. Discuss your chosen centre with your instructor and check the current details through GOV.UK.
Confirm your appointment’s address and arrival instructions directly. Any use of the training car and lesson time on test day must be arranged and priced separately.
Barka does not promise official test routes, appointment availability or a guaranteed pass.

An amazing instructor, he’s very thorough when explaining what needs to be done and will always ask you if you understand. No harm in saying that you don’t because he will explain it a little bit better to your understanding. He’s very patient and not too serious so you can have a good laugh as well. I’ve enjoyed my lessons so far and I’ve learned quite a lot in such a short time! Would definitely recommend to anyone searching for an instructor😩Posted on Google![]()

COLLIER ROW QUESTIONS
From choosing a lesson type to agreeing an RM5 pickup, settle the important details before you book.
Manual tuition costs £35 per hour and automatic tuition £40 per hour. All regular lessons last two hours: £70 for manual or £80 for automatic. Agree the total price and arrangements before booking.
Home pickup can be requested, along with another suitable local meeting point. Give us the full address and postcode so your instructor can check coverage, safe access and travel time. Pickup and return arrangements are confirmed in advance.
Choose manual if you want to practise clutch and gear coordination alongside your road skills. Automatic removes manual gear changes, which some learners find easier to manage. Discuss your experience and the type of car you want to drive before deciding.
Your starting practice should match your current ability. A complete beginner is not expected to begin with the most demanding situation. Your instructor selects suitable tasks and introduces more complex junctions when appropriate.
Yes. Explain your experience and any concerns when you enquire. You can work in smaller stages, ask questions and repeat practice. You must meet the requirements for learning to drive, including having a provisional licence.
You can discuss preparation for your chosen centre with Barka. Lessons and mock-test feedback, where appropriate, focus on safe independent driving. Check current centre and appointment details on GOV.UK, and arrange any test-day car use separately.
Give at least 48 hours’ notice. Lessons cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice are non-refundable under Barka’s approved cancellation policy. Contact Barka early if your plans change.
Call 07300 364607, WhatsApp Barka or use the website enquiry page. Share your postcode, manual or automatic preference, experience and available times. Your lesson is confirmed only after Barka agrees the time, price and pickup arrangements.
